executive admin. to the CEO?

March 9th, 2009 · 4 Comments · position available

Today, well, er, maybe yesterday, Twitter posted a new job called Executive Admin to the CEO. This is the job I want. Either that or the Founder Associate position.

These positions are right up my alley. I’m going to break down why for you and Mr. Williams. Per the job description:

Responsibilities

* Scheduling and management of executive calendars
I have extensive experience with Outlook and a knack for organization. You will never miss an appointment and a meeting will be scheduled correctly each time. No doubt.

* Answering correspondence on behalf of CEO
I love writing! I’ll answer your mail today, tomorrow, and the next day… with a smile on my face. (Yet, I promise I won’t use emoticons in business emails.) Just here: =)

* Compiling, organizing, and summarizing information for executives
I have experience in creating organizational systems that have increased workflow exponentially. I’ll label, file, laminate, sheet protect, three-hole punch, two-hole punch, collate, and summarize information in 140 characters or less, if necessary.

* Editing or tweaking documents or presentations
PowerPoint? Word? Excel? Charts? Keynote? Whatever your poison, I can edit and tweak it to your heart’s desire. I’m also proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, which you may never utilize, but it helps to have someone with a designer’s eye when dealing with presentational material.

* Faxing, filing, and running company-related errands
Faxing? Done. Filing? Done and detailed. Running errands? Sounds fun!

* Arranging travel and events
I’ll find you the best deal on flights, hotels, booths, etc. I’ll make it a point to save you time and energy in organizing these events and travel arrangements. You’ll wonder why you don’t travel more often — it’s such a breeze!

* Managing special projects on behalf of CEO
This responsibility is a bit vague, but I’m confident I can handle the management of your special projects.

Requirements

* Excellent written communication skills
Any search around this site and on my other blog will convince you that I have superior writing ability. You need not worry about that — I’m the typo and grammar police. I’ve got a way with words, as they say. (Well, at least my mom thinks so.)

* Strong computer skills (spreadsheets, word processing, presentations, email)
I’ve been working in office environments since I was seventeen. One of my previous jobs required that I administer tech support for the Microsoft Office Suite, so I know that my computer skills will be more than satisfactory.

* Highly organized and efficient
True story: I once had a boss who actually got frustrated because I would finish projects so quickly and so well. He couldn’t find enough work for me to do, especially since I was so efficient. And, I am extremely organized. So much so that I actually love going into Office Depot or browsing the Staples catalog. It’s nerdy, but I love office supplies (no joke).

* People person with tact and diplomatic instincts
Any one of my friends or my family can attest to the fact that I am quite a likable person. It has been said that it is my best trait. Plus, I am the one they all come to for advice, so I know that I am tactful and diplomatic, otherwise they wouldn’t be seeking my opinion.

So, what do you all think? Should they give me a job? Or, do I need to plead my case more?

    Um, can I hire you to be MY personal admin?! Amazingly talented AND funny…those twitter execs will have to come around. As the saying goes, “you can’t make somebody love you. You can only stalk them and hope they give in.” :D

  • admin

    @Jenny — I’m not stalking. I’m being proactive and persistent.

    There’s a difference.

    Right?!

    Jamie,

    A few suggestions - when demonstrating how you meet the criteria of a job posting, your response will have more impact if you can point to concrete examples of when you’ve done X activity, and the results you delivered in doing it. In your answers above, there’s no facts or proof. Just you’re word that you’re great. I’m sure you are, but it would help me hire you if you gave me the meat and potatoes to quiet my grumbling CEO stomach.

    For example - answering correspondence for the CEO : I’ve written multiple pieces of executive communication, including a letter to investors that resulted in a 10% increase in response rates.

    or - arranging travel and events:
    I’ve managed bookings for 3 leaders who traveled internationally on a weekly basis. I was praised for my handling of a key client trip that involved weather delays, lost baggage and 3 itinerary changes while maintain high client satisfaction.

    or finally: Managing projects
    This may sound vague to you, but have you ever managed a project? Of what size, length, or budget? Tell us about it! Have you taken a Proj Mgmt course? Your confidence isn’t enough to assure me, so I’d suggest you look back through your work/school/life experience and find a way to provide examples of where you’ve flexed those skill muscles. More like your approach to the requirements section.

    S.
