Hi everyone!
Wow, this has been one crazy ride since I launched the site. Definitely, hands down, one of the most amazing experiences and the surprises just keep coming.
Today, I found out that I was on the front page of Fortune.com.

Wow! Wow! WOW! I’m so excited!
Also - I have a live interview with CNN next Wednesday morning - so, if you want to check that out, it will be happening at 7:30am Pacific. I know, 7:30am!? So early. In San Francisco, to boot. I should bring my mom along to be my professional make up artist, since she is a professional make up artist. It would only make sense.
Next up: I’m pursuing a book deal or an agent. Or, both. It has always been my dream to write a book and, based on the success of this site and my own personal beliefs - anything is possible!
Also - if you know anyone that works on The Ellen Show - let me know. I’d love to go on there, plus she’s a huge Twitter fan, so I think we’d hit it off. Plus, you so know I’d love to dance all around the stage and then I’ll tweet about it!
Again - thanks everyone for supporting me and spreading the word! This site just keeps opening up opportunities for me and it’s truly so amazing. I appreciate all of you!

I hope that somewhere in your coverage going forward you talk about “actual job competence.” What did you show your employer Twitter that you can do?
That’s really what both employers and candidates need to focus on. It’s one thing to get a job because of marketing gimmicks. It’s another when you can actually do the job, and the employer is smart enough to see that.
That applies even moreso to a company like Twitter that is frequently criticized about not making money. Employees who can demonstrate their ability to build up the bottom line are the ones worth bringing aboard.
Good luck to both you and your current employer.

Way to go Jamie! Just goes to show why people are still risking their lives to come to our great nation! Many blessings!
Rex Dixon // Apr 5, 2009 at 1:38 pm
You are still rocking it! Let everyone know about your CNN interview URL / video!
Steve Kennedy // Apr 5, 2009 at 9:00 pm
A book deal or an agent? Geez. How about working?
Jamie Varon // Apr 5, 2009 at 9:43 pm
Glenn: Thank you for your comments, although I would venture to say that most people send a resume and cover letter to apply for a position. I have given far more information than the average candidate would give when applying for a job. I’ll use the interview to explain further what competencies I have for a position.
Wendy: Thank you! We all need a little bit of hope - can’t let anyone get us down.
Rex: You know I will!
Steve: Right. So, running three blogs, promoting myself throughout the internet, having a part time position, and doing freelance graphic design isn’t working? You have a very narrow idea of what it means to “work.”
Taylor // Apr 5, 2009 at 11:57 pm
Brilliant!!! I am so happy for you!!! You are so inspirational and you give everyone hope. I want you to get your book deal. I can see you having a number one seller with your writing skills. Keep up the good work!!
Regis Kronin // Apr 6, 2009 at 6:16 am
So Twitter didn’t hire you, and you have a part-time job working in a chat forum. Exactly why am I supposed to be inspired?
rikin // Apr 6, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Why isn’t there a counter on this blog that starts from the day this site was launched and continues until you get a job @twitter?
Jamie, you are officially the social networking equivalent of Joe the Plumber. And shame on Forbes for milking a cash cow.
Leslie Farmer // Apr 7, 2009 at 9:43 am
Congratulations on all of your success since launching the website. I enjoy reading your posts and hopefully there will be continued success with all of the upcoming events!
admin // Apr 7, 2009 at 11:06 am
Taylor: Thank you! Let’s hope the book can happen… I’d really like that.
Regis: Fair enough. People are inspired for their own reasons - my story doesn’t resonate with you - ok, fine. =)
Rikin: Hey - that’s a great idea! Where were you when I launched? I could have used that tip. I’m going to take the Joe the Plumber comment as a compliment and, actually, Forbes isn’t milking the cash cow, Fortune is.
Leslie: Thanks so much! I’m glad you stopped by. I appreciate it a lot.
rikin // Apr 7, 2009 at 1:30 pm
Sorry for the forbes/fortune mixup my eyes began to blur after lots of anger boiled up inside me head.
You know what actually do what you do and I hope you succeed but just one thing… do some good with the relative amount of exposure and fame you get from this. Give something back to the community in terms of knowledge, information, or even wealth. Some might buy in to what you’re doing and others like myself think you’re a sham but if you do good with what you get we’ll all be happy.
Mike // Apr 7, 2009 at 1:48 pm
A book deal? What is going on here? Do you have any idea how many people are unemployed right now? How about focusing on using your 15 minutes to aid other people in their various searches?
You are clearly very creative and inventive. Twitter should hire you. However, one step at a time here girl. Do some good with this thing.
Marianne // Apr 7, 2009 at 2:11 pm
Congrats on landing the job at Twitter. Just read the article in Fortune Magazine and watched your video clip online. Very cool story. Good for you!
Greg // Apr 8, 2009 at 7:48 pm
A book deal? Really? How many copies do you plan on selling and who is your target audience? Other people who consider pseudo-journalism (i.e., blogs) to be “work”? None of what you listed under your credentials is really work, is it?
Taylor // Apr 8, 2009 at 11:07 pm
Greg,
Do your research before you start passing judgement on someone you don’t even know. This girl is an amazing writer.
You go Jamie!! I am your fan all the way……
Regis Kronin // Apr 10, 2009 at 1:44 am
I read your resume. It’s a joke. You haven’t actually DONE anything. Go read the comments on the Penelope Trunk blog for the Dan Schwabel guest post… another person who has accomplished nothing. They all apply to you. People like myself and Greg are calling this out as nothing but a poor attempt at self promotion. Invite you on the Ellen show? Book deal? Are you kidding me? You are so self absorbed you aren’t even in touch with reality.
And we all know Taylor is one of your best friends…
By the way, anyone who is reading this and considering hiring this person, please go to YouTube and search using the words “jamie varon chico”, then watch “Staying in Chico”. This is the person who thinks Twitter should hire them
Enough said.
Rob // Apr 10, 2009 at 12:48 pm
Regis,
You are a serious hater - what is your major malfunction?
What exactly is wrong with self promotion?
When was the last time you got a front page mention in Fortune or called for an interview by CNN.
Catching lightening in a bottle doesn’t happen for most folks, and when the rare moment does happen you would be an idiot not to milk it.
As for your comment re the YouTube video, I was intrigued as I HAVE hired Jamie. You know what I saw? A 22 year old girl who is trying to make a life decision - one of thousand we all make - and had the balls to put it in a video blog post.
Let’s be clear, I have just met Jamie and her work needs to stand on it’s own merit (I know it will). Nothing she has said or done re this site and it’s unique efforts to stand out from the boring sea of sameness causes me to do anything other than applaud.
Now Regis, go back under the rock from which you appeared.
Kent // Apr 10, 2009 at 9:41 pm
I read about you on the Fortune website and have to I applaud you for your creativity and determination. You’ve demonstrated that you are perfect for marketing!
I have some friends who have recently graduated from college and have been jobless for many months, one nearing a year. If they had your creativity, determination, and positive attitude, they would have their dream job.
I think what you’ve done is very cool!
Greg // Apr 11, 2009 at 11:27 pm
I think this whole thing is kinda pathetic really.
Bob Solis // Apr 13, 2009 at 7:44 am
Hey Jamie Congrats, you pulled off a blooming miracle. You deserve it on the merit of thinking outside the box and proving the validity and effectiveness of Social Media Marketing…and to al you haters out there, she is still a young girl, and twitter interviewed her and deemed her worthy of the opportunity, not to mention that THEY are a Social Media Company…Hellooooo. She is a poster child for their movement.
Anybody that has the guts to try something different and put themeselves out there, deserves the results they get. There is no conspiracy here, it’s just cause and effect. The Law of Attraction and all that good stuff.
Many of you bitter people, sound like you are whining because your methods are not working for you..What you’re really saying is “Hey, why did she get all the attention, I’m the one with the real goods.” right? Then stop whining and show the world what you got. If you don’t know how to market yourself then go out and learn to do so. Resource: http://www.how2career.com is one of them.
Melishes // Apr 14, 2009 at 5:57 am
I’m not quite sure what the anger toward Jamie is all about. It is true that there are more experienced people out there, she is young, and yet has to put the miles of lines we all have on our resume.
She isn’t claiming to be something she is not, she simply used an alternate method to catch the attention of a company she really wants to work at. It is a unique approach that has caught the attention of media outlets as well as other employers.
Book deals have been administered for far less merit, and although I’m sure Jamie wants more experience under her belt before writing a book, there isn’t anything bad about her considering one. And Ellen? Why not? If she appeared on CNN to talk about her experience, why not appear on a show she really likes and is passionate about.
It is one thing to disagree with what a person is doing, but I always wonder what exactly motivates the anger and hatred with which some posts here are imbued.
Jamie, it seems to me you have your head on straight. You took a chance, maybe didn’t get exactly what you wanted, but you did get a whole lot more. You will make mistakes, you will face challenged, but if you continue with the passion I’ve seen throughout your posts, I’m sure that sooner or later you’ll be where you want to be. Don’t ever tire of hearing advice, and please recognize the difference between jealous hatred and constructive criticism.

Hey there Jamie. I was so inspired that I just wrote an article about both of your sites. I have it scheduled to publish on 23 April 2009. I would love you to visit and leave a comment.

Keep up the great work Jamie and ignore the Haterz.
Have you considered making an appearance on the Dr. Phil show? It did wonders for my blogging career.
Kanna Hudson // May 7, 2009 at 12:44 pm
I just posted about you… this is so innovative and fun - plus your site happens to be gorgeous. Best of luck!
Charmaine // May 14, 2009 at 12:21 pm
I think what you did was great! It was creative and it got what you were looking for!
As for the negativity…you must be doing something right if they came all the way on YOUR site just to say mean things. Personally, I think they wish they would have thought of this first and reached out and got the job they wanted!
Good luck to you!
Darrel // May 29, 2009 at 4:19 pm
So Twitter didn’t hire you?
Ana Amour Rencontre // Jul 9, 2009 at 12:12 pm
This is living proof that if you really want something, you can get it. Good for you, keep on showing enthusiasm and there will be more of that success.
TEWatkins // Sep 30, 2009 at 10:52 am
Just one note of caution! I have been looking for work, like millions of Americans, for months now. I saw this article and thought to myself if it helps in finding a job you really want, why not. Why not? Well, for one thing, I just received a cease and desist letter from a company who saw I registered a “Hire Me” webiste that included their name, just like this example. I only had the domain name registered for a few days and never put up the page. So, if you think this is a good idea for everyone, think again. You will end up in court if you are not careful.

Karyn Bosnak’s website dedicated to helping her get out of credit card debt. She is now on her third book and second movie option. We woud love to talk to you. gary@vertigratedentertainment.com
